Perhaps the rooms feel disconnected, storage has taken over or a former playroom needs to become a home office. Explain how you use the basement today and what you want an ordinary day to look like after remodeling.
Identify what you would keep as well as what you would change. Doors, built-ins, lighting, flooring and the room arrangement can all affect how much work is involved.
Understand the work behind the walls.
Remodeling starts with an existing construction history. Share any plans, previous repairs, known moisture concerns or photographs taken before the walls were closed.
Changes to walls, bathrooms or utility locations may require additional evaluation. The scope should distinguish work that remains from work that is removed, and explain how hidden conditions will be addressed if discovered.
Use the remodel to solve the everyday frustrations.
Tell Damond about areas that feel dark, cold, stuffy or noisy. Discuss lighting, comfort needs and sound between rooms before selecting the visible finishes. Any specialist work should be identified in the proposed scope.
Consider the ceiling, trim and flooring together so the remodeled space feels intentional. Preserve access to equipment and shutoffs, and make storage part of the layout instead of an afterthought.
